The Elizabeth Coalition will hold a Dedication and Blessing of Vincent’s House — the original Hospitality House — on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 1pm. There will be a short dedication and blessing service at the house and a reception at the offices of the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless following. Guests will have an opportunity to preview the nearly completed renovations. The house was opened in 1987 and was in dire need of renovations after many years of service to homeless families. Thanks to the donations of several benefactors and a grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs the renovations have begun and are expected to be complete in late July.
Vincent’s House was named for St. Vincent de Paul, known for his work with the poor that continues to inspire the Sisters of Charity and many parish societies to this day. The second and third floors will be named for Anne E. Tracey and Stephen J. Davis at the request of the benefactors. Both were committed to serving the poor and to the value of hospitality.
